First of all: THANK YOU DENNIS! You're a great landlord.
This apartment was just amazing und we felt like home all the time. It's located in a pretty quiet area in Harlem with places to shop near by and the subway just right around the corner. Times Square is 10 minutes away using the subway - best location to start an exciting day in the most craziest and most beautiful city ever. I've been to NYC for a couple of times, but never had such a great place to stay.
The flat has a little full stuffed kitchen, a splitted bathroom (toilet separted from shower), a cute little dining area, a sofa, an extremly comfy bed and a huge - really huge :) - TV. Better then any hotel room!
Whenever you get the chance to stay at Dennis' place - go for it. You will not regret it. Dennis, I'm coming back in August/September 2014 - can't wait to stay at your cosy apartment again ... make me a good deal ;)
Oh and while you're there - go and get the best burgers and shakes in town at Harlem Shake! So delicious.
Very Nice studio And Great houst, Dennis. 5 star!!!!! Clean appartment And Cool design. Easy to go downtown with line 2 express. Short way to central park, Guggenheim. Harlem is exotic, Nice people, restaurants, bars And caffis. Will be back!
Guest room is so beautiful. Photo's are no fake. Pleasant host. Equipment (City Guides, Maps, Descriptions, etc.) where you can work with.
The studio apartment suited us perfectly. It looks the same in real life as it is presented in the pictures, and any amenities that you need are provided. We didn’t do any cooking but had breakfast there most mornings. There is lots of storage space and even though the studio is not huge it never felt crowded. Dennis has a great playlist on the music player which really sets the mood for the whole Harlem experience. The Wi-Fi worked really well.
The neighborhood is charming and very safe and people we met were friendly; e.g. as we arrived at the address we were welcomed by a passer by wishing us a pleasant stay, and people we met in the street often said hello to us. We never felt uncomfortable in the neighborhood regardless of the time of day.
Furthermore, it was very convenient to have the express train stop at 116th St, close to where we lived. The express trains (2 and 3) took us downtown or to Brooklyn in a short period of time. Especially after having wandered around for hours at an end it was great with the quick transport back “home”.
There are several markets nearby (we mostly used the one next to the 116th St subway station). There are a few restaurants a few minutes walk away – we especially recommend the Harlem Shake on Lenox/124th St – and just around the corner there is a nice place for breakfast, Café Latte.
Dennis is nothing short of the prefect host. It’s apparent how much he loves Harlem and he seemed to genuinely enjoy meeting guests from all over the world. Apart from the information booklet in the studio apartment Dennis was a great source of information on what to do, where to go and what not to miss, whether it’s your first visit to New York or if you’ve visited many times before.
We are so pleased to have stayed at 113 W 119th Street and would highly recommend any of our friends to do the same for a “real” N.Y. experience away from the tourist crowds. If you hesitate whether to book with Dennis or not, we’d say just go for it. You won’t have any regrets.
I keep very good memories of our stay: Dennis is a very welcoming host, very friendly, available but respectful of our independence. The apartment is really quiet, well equipped and tastefully decorated. Possible improvement: the sofa in the living room, which is also the third bed is not very comfortable bed for an adult, but enough for a child or teenager. The area is really lively and friendly for visitors who want to avoid the madness of Times Square. This is a bird that woke me the first morning in New York!
I hope that Dennis was not bothered by the smell of cooking: the French sometimes need to prepare meals ... without using the microwave (we had not found the order of the extractor hood ...);)
My mind is still in New York and I think going back before too long.
See you soon
Dennis was a really awesome host, always available for providing usefull information and the apartement gave us a feeling of home in an unknowen city. When going to New York again, Thats the place we will stay.
Our stay at Harlem Hideaway was really great! The apartment was comfortable, clean and 'gezellig' (pleasant and homy). It was quiet which made the apartment a real 'hideaway'. The neighborhood is nice and friendly as well and the metro station is only 4 minutes walking distance. Same counts for the supermarket and a deli. Dennis is a great host: open, friendly and very service minded. Is was a pity that our stay was too short to have a drink together. Next time w'll sure do so! It's a pleasure to recommend this location!
Dennis is a wonderful host, who cares about the well-being of his guests. He gave us precious information about his city and neighborhood. (If you want to know, just go there!)
We had an amazing time in Dennis’ apartment (very quiet and comfy) and in Harlem (which is a little village in reality: don’t forget to say hello when you come across someone).
… in fact, we’re planning on wrapping up our stuff and grabbing the next flight to New York: Dennis, we’re back!
Seriously, we’ll be enchanted to come back.
In the meantime, if you ever want to visit the South of France, you are welcome at home whenever you want: glasses and wine are ready. ==> we mean it!

We were absolutely satisfied with our stay at Denis' Harlem Hideaway. Everything was like expected and even better. Denis is a very kind guy who obviously enjoys hosting people. He was very supportive during our stay and provided us with information not only about the obvious attractions the city has to offer but also shared his knowledge on the more off beaten tracks. Unnecessary to mention that he provided the keys for the apartment at the time and place agreed upon. Moreover, he offered the possibility to store our bags until we left for our departure late in the evening. So we had one more full day to enjoy without worrying about our luggage.
The place itself is a small but cozy studio which is warm furnished. A lot of extras are provided as NYC guidebooks a hub for mp3 players soap shampoo and towels. Denis even provides mascara and a hairdryer as standard equipment. So no need to bring it with you! There is a fully equipped kitchen and a fridge if you feel like cooking.
The apartment is located in a nice and vibrant part of Harlem, just a few blocks from the North entrance of central park. Supermarkets pharmacies and anything you are possibly in need of are just a stone's throw from there. It seems to us that the neighborhood is very safe as the host confirmed as well. Moreover, the apartment is very quite due to its location in a calm side street where it faces a backyard. The location is perfectly connected to the subway and you will make in about 15 min to Times Square on a direct train.
All in all we had a perfect stay at the Harlem hideaway. The only thing you could possibly nag about is the size of the bed. Since it is a not kingsize it might be a bit small for some persons. But again, we didn't see that as problem and would definitely recommend this place.
We enjoyed a great stay in New York. The studio is perfect, it´s beautiful styled and very calm. You find everything you need for your stay. The studio is situated in a small street with nice old houses and trees. Everything is near by, good restaurants and bars and a supermarket. A subway stop is round the corner. and with the express trains all main points of Manhatten and Brooklyn are easy to reach. Dennis was very kind and helpful. For our next stay in New York we will rent this wonderful studio again.
