On the first floor of a building in Campo dei Mori, the apartment is located in the Cannaregio district. Cannaregio is the largest district of the city, after Castello’s district, and the most populated.
The main waterway is the Cannaregio Canal, which connects the Grand Canal and the lagoon. It is the only internal channel of the historical center, in addition to the Grand Canal, to be crossed by boat .
The Cannaregio Canal is crossed by two picturesque bridges: the Ponte delle Guglie (Bridge of the Spires) so named for the four spiers on all four corners and the Ponte dei Tre Archi (or Ponte San Giobbe), the only three-arched bridge remained in Venice.
During the nineteenth century, under Habsburg rule, in this district it was realized the first land link between Venice and the mainland, with the construction of the station of Saint Lucia as a point of arrival of the railway bridge between Mestre and Venice. As a result of this, in 1858, it was erected the third bridge over the Grand Canal, the Ponte degli Scalzi, right at the train station.
In this district there is the Ghetto of Venice, accessible by a "SotoPortego ", at the foot of the Bridge of the Spires, in which they are still visible the iron hinges of the doors that once closed the Ghetto during the night.
The main artery of the whole district is the route from the station of Saint Lucia to Rialto. This route is about 25 minutes and begins at the foot of the Ponte degli Scalzi (Grand Canal side) and of the church of Santa Maria degli Scalzi and it ends in Campo dei Santi Apostoli. It is traditionally known by several names: the main denomination is Strada Nova, but it is also known by the name of Via Vittorio Emanuele II as well as by the names of individual sections that compose it.
At the extreme north of Cannaregio, between the Ghetto of Venice, the church of Sant 'Alvise and the church of Madonna dell'Orto, you can find numerous pubs and bars frequented by young people.
In addition to the above-mentioned churches, are worthy of note also the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, the first example of a Renaissance church in Venice located in the extreme south of the district, the church of the Holy Apostles and the Jesuit church (Santa Maria Assunta) .
